Dear Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you, on behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, to attend the 24th PCS International Conference: Casemix Beyond Funding: Contributions for Health Policy, 8 – 11 October 2008, Lisbon, Portugal.

As usual we are aiming to have a very successful meeting with the right balance of scientific work and social events, as this has been the tradition of all PCS International working conferences.

We are pleased to announce that our 2008 key-note speakers are very well known individuals in their field of specialty. This year we are going to have Michael Drummond from the University of York, UK, a world renowned expert in pharmacoeconomics; Margarida Bentes, from Portugal, the leading individual of DRG implementation in Portugal; and Elliot Fisher from the Dartmouth Medical School and Director of the Centre For Healthcare Research and Reform (USA) and Enrique Bernal-Delgado from the Aragonés Institute of Health Sciences (Spain) who will share with us results from the Atlas of the Variations in Clinical Practice in their countries.

We are deeply involved in the preparations for the 24th PCS International working conference and hope that you will soon begin to make your own arrangements to be in Lisbon in October 2008.

Around 25 years ago one of the first events related to Patient Classification Systems in Europe took place in Lisbon. Therefore, we hope that the current conference will also be a milestone in the history of PCS International. We hope you will be here to share it with us!

See you in Lisbon!
